Welcome back, for those returning!
Welcome in, for those seeking!
Welcome to all!
Our spiritual theme for October is Heritage.
October is my favorite month. Back in Ohio, fall is coming -- the temperatures are dropping and the leaves are turning. To me, it always seems that even as things are changing and continuing to bustle, things are also softening. This is a time of year when Pagans and others who are especially tuned into the natural world say that the veil is thinning. That is, that the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is thin so that we might visit and be with each other more easily.
My grandmother was born on Halloween, and she used to love dressing up as a witch and going to her volunteering roles this way. Her spirit is always especially close to me in October. I remember the things that she taught me and feel lucky to have had such a remarkable woman in my family.
This month, our congregation will be reflecting on the theme of Heritage. We'll be celebrating our Water Ceremony and Ingathering, a long-standing tradition in our faith. We are so fortunate to have Lynn Whitelaw coming to share about the history of the Inness paintings. We will also be kicking off our stewardship drive while thinking about the many people who have made this congregation possible.
We will also be launching our new Covenant Group(s) for the year. If you haven't had a chance to participate, I recommend it. Groups meet monthly for about two hours -- which everyone says sounds like a lot, but it goes more quickly than you'd guess. The groups meet and reflect on the monthly spiritual themes. This was one of my favorite experiences when I was a lay leader in my home congregation. If you're interested in participating this coming year or want to talk about it a little more, you can fill out this brief form: https://uutarponsprings.breezechms.com/form/023086
