Current Community Projects

The RWC has several community projects.  Yearly, we raise money, participate in a breakfast and march in the parade for the MLK Foundation and Scholarship Program. The Navigator Scouts, USA is another group we support. They have collections from canned goods at Thanksgiving, to a blanket and sweater drive for the homeless, to collecting gentle used shoes. Starting in October each year, Christmas toys for Toys-for-Tots are collected. Volunteers help to distribute these toys right before Christmas Day. On Father’s Day diapers are collected to be distributed to a 501© 3 charity. Members participate in Pinellas County Point in Time Count which surveys people who are experiencing homelessness. There is also member participation in Pinellas County Cold Night Shelter. Winter clothing, canned goods, and basic necessities are collected for Pasco Coalition for the Homeless.

A major accomplishment was the installation of The Banned Book Little Free Library. It features books to open the minds and hearts in English and Spanish. The focus is on stocking books that are banned or have been challenged as well as books that are authored by those from marginalized communities. Quarterly, we host a Banned Book Movie Night.

The RWC is supporting the Shepherd Center’s work with the unhoused people of our community. Recently, 3 large capacity washer/dryer sets were purchased for their Hope Center. Plans are in the works to increase their shower capacity from 1 shower to 3 showers.
