From the Minister – April 2022!

Our spiritual theme for the month of April is Awakening. While this theme is certainly reflective of the holidays this month, including Easter and Passover, it also works beautifully for the ways the Earth is awakening further north.
There’s a question on a dating app that asks, “Would you rather good things happen, or interesting things?” Most people answer good things, and it’s a reasonable answer. Of course, I’d choose interesting things, knowing that good things happening all the time wouldn’t give me the same opportunities that nurture growth as interesting things.
Like changing seasons, interesting things give us abundant opportunities for reflection and learning. Constant change is no more helpful than just constant goodness, as we can all attest from the last two plus years of the pandemic. They need to take turns, goodness and challenge. And we must make space for reflection and connection through it all.
More change, but with new opportunities for reflection and connection, are coming. Coffee hour is returning, this Sunday -- I know you've been waiting a long time. We will have some changes in worship, including the addition of a TV monitor to enhance some aspects of our services and widen the diversity in speakers we had grown to appreciate. The Board is experimenting with a new approach to its work, based on Dan Hotchkiss' Governance and Ministry, and we hope that this will empower different parts of congregational life.
May your awakening this month be complemented with good rest, as well as time and space for reflection and connection.
