Welcome back, for those returning!
Welcome in, for those seeking!
Welcome to all!
Hello Beloved Friends,
Thank you, Mr. Rogers, for these words. There can be no doubt about the real and scary things in the news. Within a month’s time we will have dealt with the stress, anxiety, and uncertainty of two hurricanes and a national election of momentous importance. I can feel myself digging deep into my soul to face what has come and what may come.
I am reminding myself what has always helped me in the past during times like these. For me it’s spending as much time as I can with people (and pets) who really know me and really love me. It’s also allowing myself “all the feels” and taking extra moments in quiet meditation, breathing, noticing the stress in my body, and being present with myself. It’s also remembering what I’m grateful for and thinking about ways to reach out to others – either to offer them support and kindness, or to ask for help. We get through things better together.
In my two months at UUCTS what I already know for sure is how much you all take care of each other. Many of you were sheltered during the storms at the home of another member. I saw you checking on each other and making sure everyone had a safe place to be. Our Congregational Covenant, which we read together each Sunday morning, calls us to strive to “move toward love, encouraging the best in each other.” I have witnessed our covenant walking its words. These are times we need our helpers.
Be gentle with yourself. Reach out if you need help. It’s been quite a stretch!
With Love,
Pastor Patti
P.S. I am almost always at the church on Mondays and Thursdays from 10-3 at my rolling desk and chair with Diet Coke and Cheez-Its to share. Some of the time is for scheduled meetings and visits. I’m happy to make appointments if you’d like to chat or say hello. You can email me at minister@uutarpon.org. I’m also glad to make an evening visit available if that works better for you.
